PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Court today set aside the High Court's conviction and sentence against former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim for sodomy.
A three-member panel comprising Federal Court judges Datuk Abdul Hamid Mohamad and Datin Paduka Rahmah Hussain and Court of Appeal judge Tengku Datuk Baharuddin Shah Tengku Mahmud allowed the appeal in a 2-1 majority decision.
The 57-year-old politician arrived at the Palace of Justice at 8.45am in a wheelchair. He came in an ambulance from Hospital Kuala Lumpur where he had been warded since July 12 due to a chronic bad back ailment.
Anwar is expected to immediately fly to Munich, Germany for urgent operation on his long standing spinal disc injury.
